How Service Provider Works?
Background
The Ministry of Forestry of the Government of Indonesia (Gol) and the
Department for International Development (DFID) of the Government of United Kingdom have entered into an arrangement to implement the Forest Governance and Multistakeholder Forestry Programme over a three-year period (2007 - 2011).
This program is continuing the multistakeholders approach and completing the targets which have been accomplished by the prior Multistakeholder Forestry Program that was carried out from 2000 - 2007. The focus issues are facilitating community based forest management, tackling corruption, support better forest law enforcement and reduce illegal logging and its associated timber trade in Indonesia. The program held during the period 2007 - 2011 can be categorized as transition phase that will have greater challenges such as the preparation of strong and independent community foundation to establish strong synergy between foundations in each region. This synergy is important to maintain the strategic directions which have been developed between the MoF and DFID in a national level movement.
The Forest Governance and Multistakeholder Forestry Programme 2007 - 2011 seeks to support improved forest governance with a particular focus on the negotiation and implementation of an EU - Government of Indonesia Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT-VPA). The program works by strengthening government and civil society partnerships at local and national levels to build capacity, empower community forest managers and develop and implement policy. In particular, the program will work to nurture and strengthen its network of Community Foundations in the regions, established with previous program support, in order to scale up partnerships capacity building and empowerment.
Over the next three years, program also working with stakeholders to identify and implement governance reforms necessary for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) implementation.
It is with this understanding of community partnership that KEHATI enters the Program. With its vast 13 years of experience in grant making and collaboration with local communities, NGO’s, governments and universities, KEHATI is confident in its role to empower and build local capacity in forest governance, bridge different stakeholders and work with donor agencies to achieve the goals.
