Indo-TLAS


The Indonesian Timber Legality Assurance System is a licencing scheme that ensures timber export comply with Indonesian forest laws using a government approved multistakeholder definition of legality. It consists of alegality standard, criteria, verifiers, a verification methodology, and evaluation norms. The Ind0-TLAS was designed to be a credible, efficient, and fair legality verification system as a contribution to fighting illegal longging. It provides assurance that the traded products covered by the scheme come from legal sources and have been logged, processed and transported legally.

The use of independent auditors and independent forest monitoring in the Indo-TLAS also makes a major contribution to better forest governance.

The Indo-TLAS has two function :

  1. To combat illegal logging in Indonesia by assuring that every forest product exported by legal parties, free from the possibility of mixing with unidentifiable sources of timber and respecting the rights of local communities as well as the right of the state to charge taxes and other forest levies.
  2. To promote the trade legally harvested timber product and so make progress towards sustainable forest management in Indonesia .

The Indo-TLAS Develoment Prinsiples

The system was developed through a series of open consultation  between Indonesian forestry stakeholders to ensure balance between the interests government, industry and civil society. This process was transparent and the system that resulted ensues accountablility and good forest governance and will increase the credibility and acceptability of Indo-TLAS timber in the markeet.




Multistakeholder Forestry Programme

Forest Governance and Multi-stakeholder Forestry Programme (MFP-II) is a collaborative program Forestry bilateral field between the Government of Indonesia with the British Government. This goal program are all traded Indonesian timber demonstrated legal, as a precondition for effective forest governance, sustainable forest management. MFP-II activities directed to achieve three main output : (1) Sufficient capacity to implement SVLK (Supply chain control, accreditation processing, auditing, independent auditing, independent monitoring, licensing and structuring implementation mechanism); (2) SVLK certified timber recognized in key international markets; (3) Representative mechanism in place to review and strengthen SVLK implementation
